Claire & John both have artistic backgrounds. Living in Arkansas, she is a costume designer and he is an illustrator with experience in commercial video production. At the first meeting, they described their wedding as rustic, shabby-chic, and retro-vintage. And, of course, wanting a rustic setting with barns, wooden fences, trees, and fields meant Claire’s family’s farm in Finchville, Kentucky, was the perfect location! The ceremony was at Finchville Baptist Church and they did a First Look nearby in a beautiful wooded area with a barn.
There are a lot of interesting facts about this wedding. Claire’s brother officiated the ceremony, and Claire designed the bridesmaid dresses, even refashioning her own dress from a friend’s wedding dress. Girl got skills. John’s ring was made from meteorite, which probably explains his superpowers, but I wasn’t going to say anything if no one else did. John also put his skills to work to create a coloring book about the two of them that tells their story and it turned out really well (It made me regret leaving my Crayola box of 264 on my desk at the studio. I think they provided a few crayons, but I can’t work with less than 64 colors. I mean, c’mon).
Alex of Fleur De Lis Event & Design described the reception as “fine dining in a field” and it was! Well, it was in a tent, too, because the weather was a bit chilly. But the team at Fleur De Lis Event & Design (www.creatingwows.com) did an awesome job designing and decorating the wedding. Every table had it’s own unique set of antique plates, a variety of glassware, and vintage items such as old glass milk containers (like the milk man would bring), a typewriter, old books, and a quite interesting assortment of other glass or ceramic items. It was nicely done.
At the end of the night, there was a “Sky Lantern Blessing” and released paper lanterns, lighting up the night sky. Surrounded by family and friends, Claire and John exited the wedding by candlelight. It was a day filled with fun, emotion, and awesome.
